China and censorship

China is trying to control the internet. There are those who believe that by its very nature, the internet cannot be controlled.

  • Chinese web filtering ‘erratic’
    [12 September 2007]
“The Chinese government oversees what people do online. … China’s firewall that tries to sanitise web browsing is much more porous than previously thought, says a study.”
  • Comments on “Net dissident jailed” Some of them pretty funny!
  • Yahoo! can! help! jail! Chinese! dissidents! 15 March 2007
“Journalist Shi Tao was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2005 with the help of evidence supplied by Yahoo! He had shared an email with foreign colleagues that contained details of a Chinese government request for reports of the 15th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre to be censored.”
Many good links to other stories on the same subject, at end of article.
